Jungleman12 – next super star in online poker?

You are following online high stakes poker? Then “Jungleman12” is probably no new name for you. Let`s have a look at this young super talent, who crushed almost anyone he has played on FullTilt poker – almost exclusivly headsup No-Limit Hold`em.

He prefers to play his opponents on many tables at the same time – up to 6,7 or even 8 tables. His approach to the game is very rational, affected by discipline in bank roll management and tilt control. But he definitely does not avoid the big players!

He played the likes of Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Luke Schwartz, Isildur1 or ZeeJustin on a regular basis. The only one to beat him big was “Isildur1”. Read about this here: Jungleman12 vs. Isildur1. Now he takes another BIG step on his way to the top of online poker by accepting the “Durrrr challenge” – he will play Tom Dwan headsup in 50.000 hands of No-Limit Hold`em (4 tables simultaneously. The whole online poker community will follow this and it gives Jungleman12 to chance to climb the absolute top of the hill!

Here is an excerpt of how Daniel “Jungleman12” Cates describes his sudden rise:

“I started off playing live .5/1 mostly in the summer of 2007, and didn`t do well. I then read books and deposited a small amount online, playing 5-10$ dollar sngs. I lost about 250 $, but then with my next 70$ I kept winning and eventually played higher sngs, up to 33$.

Around March 2008, I won a tourny for 5200 dollars, more than doubling my roll. From there I was able to play higher games, purchase training site memberships (such as CR), and ultimately try cash games. I good success at cash games as well, but particularly HU. By early June, I was playing almost exclusively hu cash at the .25/.50 level, and doing pretty well.

By the end of 2008, I was playing and beating 10/20. By Feb 2009, I moved up to 25/50, and experienced one of the biggest setbacks in progress, as the players at this stake were significantly tougher than those at 10/20. I ultimately overcame the challenge, and now in 2010 I am playing up to 300/600 nl and 50/100 plo.”

In his latest blog post he says:
I’ve been doing research on this, and it also has helped me answer the question: “Why am I so successful at poker?” The detailed answer to this is long, but in short because of an amalgamation of traits (I’ll talk about in future blogs) and a decent amount of subtle luck. One such incident in luck was that I intuitively had the right mindset a long time ago regarding poker: Once upon a time I had no success, and I only seemed to ever lose when I played poker. I remember people thought I was stupid for playing, one person even implied to me that I was wasting my money playing this game (in almost those words). At some moments I even thought winning was hopeless… But from what I read in poker literature, all my current loses meant nothing in the grand scheme of things (realistic positive). And I was not interested in short term success–I truly believed that I could win (positive thought) if I applied logic and work (realistic thought) eventually my efforts would be availed. It took me nine fucking months of playing poker to even turn a profit, but could anyone say that I was wrong now? My realistic, positive attitude didn’t pay off immediately, but now, a few years later, I have touched the sky.

Pokerstars player “nanonoko”

The first article of this blog is dedicated to Randy “nanonoko” Lew. Nanonoko switched from professional video gaming to poker in 2008. He first appeared on Pokerstars in August 2008. Check out the Pokertableratings profile of nanonoko and you will realise maybe the most consistent statistics graph of an online poker player ever. He brought multitabling to another level, playing up to 24 tables of no-limit hold`em at the same time. When he came up most players described him as inhuman.

He avoids big variance by playing many tables on relatively small stakes. But since he has a healthy bankroll (a multi million dollar bankroll) the Pokerstars pro is playing up to 25/50.

In 2010 Nanonoko started to play live poker, too. Glorious is his video, where he is reviewing a hand he played against Patrik Antonius by drawing it on a paper with a pencil (Check it out below).

On Nanonoko`s personal website you`ll find out alot about him, it`s worth a visit, since it includes a lot of funny and informative stuff.
